After selecting Trudy as a pet for our family from a litter at Sylabru Welsh Springers, I was encouraged to take lessons on how to show her. She and I did well, and she earned her championship in a little more than one year. She passed her health tests and I bred her when she was almost three years old. I kept a daughter from that first litter, and Truepenny Welsh Springer Spaniels was created. Trudy was a patient companion to our sons and a loving family member. I could not have asked for a better introduction to the Welsh Springer breed.
I purchased Quincy in 1990 from Brafci Welsh Springer Spaniels in Arizona. He turned out to be much more than I had hoped for, earning many prestigious show wins. He also earned Companion Dog and Canine Good Citizen titles. Quincy earned a Best of Breed award at the Westminster Kennel Club in 1997. He was a sweet and special boy who was a best friend to our family for 14 1/2 years. He sired many very good litters for me and other breeders. The foundation of Pennylane, Penny, was a daughter of Quincy. His name can be found in many Welsh Springer pedigrees.

Brandy is another accomplished daughter of Quincy. She and her owner, Irene Vonderahe, proudly achieved 60 agility titles! Brandy was the top Welsh Springer agility dog in the country for several years.
Grand Champion Truepenny The Secret is Out 2005-2016
Pepper has sired two litters for Truepenny and one for Tiergwaith Welsh Springers. He is the grandsire of seven litters from three of his children! Pepper never met a person, another dog, or a situation he didn't like. Notice the big smile on his face while showing!
Tessa is the only Welshie living with me now, and I treasure her company. She earned a Canadian Championship showing there between the ages of ten to thirteen months. We then started to show for an American (AKC) Championship, and that only took nine shows! She has also earned a Canine Good Citizen title.
She has no young children in my home to play with, but loves it when my grandchildren visit. As you can see from the colorful picture, she is very patient being decorated by a four year old.
Tessa's second litter was born in July 2016. The sire was my beloved boy from the 90s, Quincy. I am thrilled to have 6 puppies sired through the power of modern veterinary medicine.
Grand Champion Truepenny Olympic Triumph, RN, CGC 2012-
Watson is an active boy who keeps his owners, Laura and Brad Morgenfeld, laughing with his antics. He was purchased with plans to train him for performance events, but Laura tried her hand at showing in conformation and Watson completed his championship easily. He has also earned his Grand Championship without difficulty.
He has sired three lovely litters, one of them for Truepenny. His daughter, Truepenny Bright Side of Life (Hazel) lives with her sire, and together the two of them engage in even more shenanigans than Watson ever thought of on his own. He has his first Rally title and is a Canine Good Citizen, but he is working toward earning additional performance titles. Go Watson!
Grand Champion Truepenny Starspangled 2013-
Bryce is one of Truepenny's young champions. He recently earned his AKC Grand Championship, in which champions compete against each other. He sired his first litter in the spring of 2016 (see pictures of Finn and Java on Pennylane page). His fourth litter is expected soon. Bryce is currently having fun training in Barn Hunt classes. Bryce lives in Delaware with Roxanne and Jack Satterfield, who are so in love with their special boy.
Ch. Truepenny Brooksong Star of the Stage, CGC, RATI, RATS 2013-
2016 was a very busy year for Elphaba. She earned her AKC championship with all major wins including a Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex over champions.
Elphy also earned her Canine Good Citizen, passed all three odor recognition tests for Nose Work and her NW1 in Nose Work. Elphaba also enjoys competing in Barn Hunt trials. During the past year, she passed her rat instinct test and earned three Barn Hunt titles, including her Senior title, becoming only the second Welsh Springer to have earned this distinction.
Ch. Tiergwaith Truepenny All Through the Night 2014-
Born on Christmas Day in 2014, Callie was purchased from my friends, Peggy and Doug Lehnen of Tiergwaith Welsh Springer Spaniels. She lives with and is co-owned by another friend, Christine Mirante. Callie earned her AKC championship in October, 2016, at the age of 22 months. We completed her health tests shortly after her second birthday. We were pleased to learn that her eyes were particularly healthy, her thyroid values were normal, her elbow conformation was normal, but we were disappointed to learn that only her left hip was evaluated as normal. The “ball” of her right hip is very slightly not in the “socket” enough. So she is labeled unilaterally mild. This was an unexpected surprise, since her parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters all have normal hips. Perhaps Callie’s early active behaviors caused that one hip to be not quite normal. We doubt it is genetic, but we will never know.
